What to expect in the box
You will receive the exact variegated Trichocereus terscheckii pictured, about 7.5 inches tall, shipped rooted and bare root without soil or a pot. After arrival: handle with gloves. Let it rest in a shaded, dry spot for 1-2 days, then pot it in a gritty, fast-draining cactus mix in a container with a drainage hole. Wait about a week before the first watering so the roots can settle, then begin a normal soak and dry routine. Important: bring it into strong sun gradually. The yellow variegated tissue has no chlorophyll and scorches far more easily than green tissue, and sun damage on those zones does not heal.

Cacti can look slightly dull after a few days in a dark box. Color returns within a week or two of bright light. If your area drops below 40F, we recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as one is not automatically included.

This is the exact plant you will receive. A one of a kind young variegated Trichocereus terscheckii (Argentine Saguaro), about 7.5 inches tall, with bold lemon-yellow variegation sweeping across fat green ribs and warm golden-amber spines.

The gold spination is typical of young terscheckii and grays as the plant matures. What makes this one worth owning is the variegation, which is stable and carries into new growth. It is a rare trait in columnar cacti and no two plants pattern alike. Grown here on the property.

One care note: variegated tissue has less chlorophyll and burns more easily than solid green. Give it bright light but ease it into full sun rather than moving it straight into all-day exposure.

  • Light: Full sun to bright light, acclimate gradually
  • Water: Low. Soak and dry, minimal in winter
  • Hardiness: USDA zones 9 to 11
  • Growth: Moderate columnar, slower than solid green

Please note: This is a rooted, bare-root plant shipped without soil or a pot. You will receive the exact plant pictured.

Cold Weather Warning

If your area drops below 40°F during the colder months, we highly recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as we don’t automatically include one. This helps keep your plants safe in transit. 🌡️❄️

Cactus Care

Variegated cacti are grown much like solid green ones, with one difference: the yellow tissue has no chlorophyll, so it sunburns faster and the plant grows more slowly.

  • Light: Bright light to full sun, but acclimate gradually. Moving a variegated plant straight into all-day sun can scorch the yellow zones permanently.
  • Water: Soak and dry. Water deeply, then let the soil dry out fully. Keep nearly dry in winter.
  • Soil: Gritty, fast-draining cactus mix in a pot with a drainage hole.
  • Temperature: Hardy in USDA zones 9-11. Protect from frost.
  • Feeding: Light. A diluted cactus fertilizer once or twice in the growing season is plenty.
