What to expect in the box
You will receive one rooted, bare-root Euphorbia anoplia from a 4 in nursery pot, shipped without soil or a pot. After arrival: unbox promptly and let the plant rest in a shaded, dry spot for 1-2 days. Plant in a sandy, fast-draining cactus mix in a pot with a drainage hole. Wait about a week before the first watering so the roots can settle, then begin a normal soak and dry routine. Handle with care: the milky sap can irritate skin, so wear gloves when planting. Each plant is unique, so expect some variation from the photos.

Cacti can look slightly dull after a few days in a dark box. Color returns within a week or two of bright light. If your area drops below 40F, we recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as one is not automatically included.

Euphorbia anoplia, the Tanzanian Zipper Plant, is a compact, spineless succulent that forms tight clumps of thick, ribbed stems marked with pale, zipper-like banding along every rib. Sometimes sold as 'Mother Hubbard', it looks like a miniature cactus but is actually a dwarf euphorbia, and it stays small, neat, and nearly indestructible.

It is an easy, low-maintenance grower. Give it bright light or full sun and water only after the soil has dried out completely. Hardy outdoors in USDA zones 10 to 11, it also thrives indoors on a sunny windowsill in cooler climates.

  • Light: Full sun to partial shade, or bright direct light indoors
  • Water: Low. Soak and dry, letting the soil dry fully between waterings
  • Hardiness: USDA zones 10 to 11
  • Growth: Moderate. Offsets freely into a dense clump

Please note: This is a rooted, bare-root plant shipped without soil or a pot. Like all euphorbias, the milky sap can irritate skin and is toxic if eaten, so keep it away from pets and children. Exact size and shape will vary from the photos.

Cold Weather Warning

If your area drops below 40°F during the colder months, we highly recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as we don’t automatically include one. This helps keep your plants safe in transit. 🌡️❄️

Cactus Care

The Tanzanian Zipper Plant is about as forgiving as succulents get. Give it bright light, fast-draining soil, and restraint with the watering can.

  • Light: Full sun to partial shade outdoors, or the brightest window you have indoors.
  • Water: Soak and dry. Water deeply, then wait until the soil is completely dry. Cut back sharply in winter.
  • Soil: Sandy, fast-draining cactus mix with plenty of mineral grit.
  • Temperature: Hardy in USDA zones 10-11. Bring it indoors before frost in colder zones.
  • Feeding: Little to none needed. A diluted cactus fertilizer once or twice in the growing season is plenty.
