What to expect in the box
You will receive one rooted, bare-root Haworthia retusa shipped without soil or a pot. After arrival: unbox promptly and let the plant rest in a shaded, dry spot for 1-2 days. Pot it up in a gritty, fast-draining succulent mix in a container with a drainage hole. Wait about a week before the first watering so the roots can settle, then begin a normal soak and dry routine. Rosette size and window clarity vary naturally, so your plant will have its own character.

Cacti can look slightly dull after a few days in a dark box. Color returns within a week or two of bright light. If your area drops below 40F, we recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as one is not automatically included.

Haworthia retusa, the Star Cactus, forms a neat, star-shaped rosette of thick triangular leaves that fold back at the tips. Those flattened tips carry translucent "windows" that let light glow through the leaf, which is what makes this little South African succulent such a collector favorite up close.

It stays small, grows slowly, and is perfectly suited to windowsills and desks. Give it bright, indirect light with a little gentle morning sun, and water only once the soil has dried out completely. In spring, mature rosettes send up a tall, slender stalk of small white flowers.
