What to expect in the box
You will receive the exact Spiral Cactus pictured, shipped rooted and bare root without soil or a pot. After arrival: unbox promptly and let the plant rest in a shaded, dry spot for 1-2 days. Pot it up in a gritty, fast-draining cactus mix in a container with a drainage hole, setting it deep enough to stand steady. Wait about a week before the first watering so the roots can settle, then begin a normal soak and dry routine. Ease it into full sun rather than moving it straight into all-day exposure. The chalky blue-green bloom on the skin rubs off where handled. That is normal and new growth returns with it.

Cacti can look slightly dull after a few days in a dark box. Color returns within a week or two of bright light. If your area drops below 40F, we recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as one is not automatically included.

This is the exact plant you will receive. A one of a kind Spiral Cactus (Cereus peruvianus spiralis, botanically Cereus forbesii 'Spiralis') with a bold, wide-sweeping corkscrew and heavy rust-orange spines along a chalky blue-green column. A small offset is already coming at the base.

The spiral is genetic, not a trick of training or damage. It is stable, and every inch of new growth keeps corkscrewing as the plant climbs. Twist quality varies a lot from plant to plant in this cultivar, which is exactly why we photograph and sell these individually. This one has a dramatic, open spiral with real movement to it.

It is an easy, forgiving grower and one of the better cacti for a bright indoor spot. Mature plants throw large white flowers that open at night.

  • Light: Full sun to bright light
  • Water: Low. Soak and dry, minimal in winter
  • Hardiness: USDA zones 9 to 11
  • Growth: Moderate, an eventual tall column

Please note: This is a rooted, bare-root plant shipped without soil or a pot. You will receive the exact plant pictured.

Cold Weather Warning

If your area drops below 40°F during the colder months, we highly recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as we don’t automatically include one. This helps keep your plants safe in transit. 🌡️❄️

Cactus Care

The Spiral Cactus is one of the easiest columnar cacti to keep, indoors or out. Bright light and a dry root run are all it asks.

  • Light: Full sun outdoors, or the brightest window you have indoors. Ease it into full sun to avoid scorch.
  • Water: Soak and dry. Water deeply, then wait until the soil is completely dry. Cut back hard in winter.
  • Soil: Gritty, fast-draining cactus mix in a pot with a drainage hole.
  • Temperature: Hardy in USDA zones 9-11. Protect from frost or grow it in a pot you can move indoors.
  • Feeding: A diluted cactus fertilizer once or twice in the growing season is plenty.
