What to expect in the box
You will receive the exact rooted San Pedro stump pictured, about 2-3 inches tall with its attached pup, shipped bare root without soil or a pot. After arrival: unbox promptly and let the plant rest in a shaded, dry spot for 1-2 days. Pot it in a gritty, fast-draining cactus mix in a container with a drainage hole, deep enough that the stump sits steady. Wait about a week before the first watering so the roots can settle, then begin a normal soak and dry routine. The callused cut on top is healed and normal. Handle the pup gently, as new growth is softer than the mature stump.

Cacti can look slightly dull after a few days in a dark box. Color returns within a week or two of bright light. If your area drops below 40F, we recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as one is not automatically included.

This is the exact plant you will receive. A one of a kind rooted San Pedro (Echinopsis pachanoi)  stump, about 2 to 3 inches tall, with a healthy pup already pushing out from the side. The pup stays attached.

This is not a cutting, it is the established, rooted base a cutting was taken from, and that is exactly what makes it worth owning. A rooted stump has a full root system feeding a short body, so it puts its energy straight into new growth. You get to watch this pup grow out, and when it is big enough you can cut it and start the cycle again. The stump keeps producing.

If you want a San Pedro that gives you plants instead of just being one, this is it.

  • Light: Full sun to bright light
  • Water: Low. Soak and dry, minimal in winter
  • Hardiness: USDA zones 9 to 11
  • Growth: Fast for a cactus once established

Please note: This is a rooted, bare-root plant shipped without soil or a pot. You will receive the exact stump and attached pup pictured. The cut surface on top is healed and callused, which is normal.

Cold Weather Warning

If your area drops below 40°F during the colder months, we highly recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as we don’t automatically include one. This helps keep your plants safe in transit. 🌡️❄️

Cactus Care

San Pedro is one of the fastest and most forgiving columnar cacti. A rooted stump like this establishes quickly and pushes pups in the warm months.

  • Light: Full sun to bright light. Ease it into all-day sun to avoid scorching the soft new pup growth.
  • Water: Soak and dry through the warm months, which is when it pups hardest. Keep it nearly dry in winter.
  • Soil: Gritty, fast-draining cactus mix in a pot with a drainage hole.
  • Taking future cuttings: Let a pup reach a good size, cut it cleanly at the base with a sterile blade, callus the cut end for a week or two, then plant it dry. The stump will push new pups from the same area.
  • Temperature: Hardy in USDA zones 9-11. Protect from frost.
