What to expect in the box
You will receive the exact five-column San Pedro clump pictured, shipped rooted and bare root without soil or a pot. All five columns stay attached. After arrival: unbox with thick gloves, the spines are sharp. Let the plant rest in a shaded, dry spot for 2-3 days, then plant in a sandy, fast-draining mix or a gravelly full-sun spot. Wait about a week before the first watering so the roots can settle, then begin a normal soak and dry routine. Some scuffing of spines in transit is normal and does not harm the plant.

Cacti can look slightly dull after a few days in a dark box. Color returns within a week or two of bright light. If your area drops below 40F, we recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as one is not automatically included.

This is the exact plant you will receive. A one of a kind San Pedro cactus (Echinopsis pachanoi, also sold as Trichocereus pachanoi) clump with five columns on one root ball: three main columns, the tallest about 30 inches and the other two about 26 and 25 inches, each around 3 inches across, plus two smaller columns growing off one of the branches. Smooth blue-green ribs with tiny areoles and short spines, the classic San Pedro look.

San Pedro is one of the fastest growing columnar cacti, native to the Andes of Ecuador and Peru. It takes heat, cold to about 20 F, and neglect, and opens enormous white night flowers once established. A clump this size gives you an instant multi-stem stand instead of waiting years for a single cutting to branch.

Full sun to light afternoon shade, fast-draining soil, deep water only when dry.

  • Light: Full sun to partial shade
  • Water: Low. Soak and dry, nearly dry in winter
  • Hardiness: USDA zones 9 to 11, brief dips to about 20 F when dry
  • Growth: Fast, up to a foot a year in the ground

Please note: This is a rooted, bare-root plant shipped without soil or a pot. You will receive the exact plant pictured.

Cold Weather Warning

If your area drops below 40°F during the colder months, we highly recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as we don’t automatically include one. This helps keep your plants safe in transit. 🌡️❄️

Cactus Care

San Pedro is the easy one. It grows fast, forgives mistakes and flowers big once it settles in.

  • Light: Full sun to light afternoon shade. In hot inland areas a little afternoon shade prevents sunburn on the crowns.
  • Water: Soak and dry. Water deeply, then let the soil dry completely. Nearly dry in winter.
  • Soil: Sandy, fast-draining cactus mix or a well-drained landscape bed with added pumice or gravel.
  • Temperature: Hardy in USDA zones 9 to 11. Tolerates brief dips to about 20 F when dry; protect from hard freezes.
  • Feeding: A balanced cactus fertilizer monthly in spring and summer speeds growth. None in winter.
