What to expect in the box
You will receive the exact 13 node Penis Cactus pictured, freshly dug, shipped rooted and bare root without soil or a pot. After arrival: unbox with thick gloves, the spines are sharp. Let the plant rest in a shaded, dry spot for 2-3 days, then plant in a sandy, fast-draining mix or a gravelly full-sun spot. Wait about a week before the first watering so the roots can settle, then begin a normal soak and dry routine. Some scuffing of spines in transit is normal and does not harm the plant.

Cacti can look slightly dull after a few days in a dark box. Color returns within a week or two of bright light. If your area drops below 40F, we recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as one is not automatically included.

This is the exact plant you will receive. A one of a kind rooted Trichocereus bridgesii monstrose, the short form widely known as the Penis Cactus, with at least 13 nodes on one plant. We counted about 14 and are calling it 13 to be safe. It stands roughly 10 inches tall (estimated, not ruler measured) and fans out from a single base.

Each node is the classic short form shape: a smooth, spineless, blue-green tip over a lower section with a few golden spines. Every node is a future plant, since a node that is cut and callused will root on its own. Most people start with one. This is thirteen, already rooted and already branching.

Honest condition notes: this is a field plant. One node has a small healed scar near the tip, and one of the middle nodes has a patch of raised tan corky spots. Both are cosmetic, dry and healed, and they are shown in the photos. The price reflects them.

Trichocereus bridgesii monstrose is an easy, fast-rooting cactus. Give it sun, drainage and protection from frost.

  • Light: Full sun to light afternoon shade. In very hot inland summers a little afternoon shade prevents yellowing.
  • Water: Soak and dry. Water deeply, then let the soil dry completely before watering again. Nearly dry in winter.
  • Soil: Sandy, fast-draining cactus mix, or a gravelly landscape bed on a slope or mound.
  • Temperature: Hardy in USDA zones 9 to 11. Frost tender: protect below about 28 F.
  • Feeding: A diluted cactus fertilizer once or twice in spring and summer is plenty.
