What to expect in the box
You will receive one rooted, bare-root Peanut Cactus shipped without soil or a pot. After arrival: unbox promptly and let the plant rest in a shaded, dry spot for 1-2 days. Pot it in a gritty, fast-draining cactus mix in a shallow container. Wait about a week before the first watering, then begin a normal soak and dry routine. Fingers that detach in transit are normal, not damage. Set them on dry soil and they root into new plants within a couple of weeks.

Cacti can look slightly dull after a few days in a dark box. Color returns within a week or two of bright light. If your area drops below 40F, we recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as one is not automatically included.

Peanut Cactus (Echinopsis chamaecereus) grows clusters of soft-spined, finger-like stems that pile over each other like a handful of peanuts, and every spring it buries itself in brilliant orange-red flowers that look enormous next to the little stems.

It is one of the easiest and most rewarding small cacti: fast to offset, quick to fill a pot, tolerant of a little frost, and safe around pets. Our plants occasionally throw golden yellow sport stems, a quirk of the species that collectors prize, like the one in our photos.
