What to expect in the box
You will receive the exact Mother of Hundreds clump pictured, approx 7 in across, shipped rooted and bare root without soil or a pot. After arrival: let the plant rest in a shaded, dry spot for 2 to 3 days, then plant in sandy, fast-draining soil with the base at the same depth as before. Wait about a week before the first watering, then water deeply and let the soil dry out completely between waterings.

Cacti can look slightly dull after a few days in a dark box. Color returns within a week or two of bright light. If your area drops below 40F, we recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as one is not automatically included.

This is the exact plant you will receive. A one of a kind, field-grown Mammillaria compressa, the Mother of Hundreds. This dense clump measures approximately 7 inches across and 5 inches tall (approximate), a mosaic of angular blue-green tubercles laced with long, twisting white spines. Look closely at the photos and you can see a crimson flower bud already tucked into the crown.

The common name is earned. Given time this species offsets into a mound of dozens, then hundreds of heads, and clumps ring themselves with small deep pink flowers in spring.
