Plant facts

SunlightFull sun to partial shade
WaterLow water. Only when soil is fully dry
Mature sizeA low, mounding clumping cactus. Individual stems are cylindrical and stay small, but a mature clump reaches about 1-2 ft tall and commonly 2-3 ft wide, sometimes to 3-4 ft across in the ground. In a pot it stays a tighter, smaller clump.
Time to matureModerate to fast for a clumping cactus. Individual stems fill in over about 2-3 growing seasons, but building a large multi-stemmed mound takes several years to a decade or more.
Ships asRooted plant, bare root, no pot or soil
What to expect in the box

Your plant is hand-picked, wrapped in protective kraft paper, and shipped on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. It arrives bare root: a fully rooted plant shipped without a pot or soil, ready to plant right away.

Minor scars or pitting on the skin are normal for hardgrown cacti. Any discoloration near the base is from previous healthy growth in soil and is not a sign of damage.

Cacti can look slightly dull after a few days in a dark box. Color returns within a week or two of bright light. If your area drops below 40F, we recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as one is not automatically included.

Scientific Name: Echinocereus triglochidiatus

Please Note: Our collection includes bare-root WITHOUT any soil or pot and cuttings. Some of our plants may have minor scars, yet each one is guaranteed to arrive in optimal health and excellent condition. Additionally, any discoloration at the base of the cactus, particularly in rooted variants, is a typical result of previous planting in soil.

Cold Weather Warning

If your area drops below 40°F during the colder months, we highly recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as we don’t automatically include one. This helps keep your plants safe in transit. 🌡️❄️

  • Unique Appearance: Its dense white spines and ribbed stems provide an interesting texture and visual appeal.
  • Hardy and Resilient: Adaptable to a wide range of temperatures and conditions, this cactus is a resilient addition to any garden or indoor collection.

Cactus Care

Light: Place your Echinocereus triglochidiatus in a location that receives full sun for the best growth and flowering. It can tolerate partial shade, but bright light is essential.

Water: Water sparingly. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.

Soil: Use well-draining cactus or succulent soil mix. Avoid regular potting soil, which can retain too much moisture.

Temperature: This cactus is hardy in USDA zones 7-11 and can tolerate temperatures down to 10°F. Protect it from frost during colder months.

Feeding: Fertilize sparingly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced cactus fertilizer diluted to half strength.

Potting: Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant outgrows its container. Use a pot with drainage holes to prevent water accumulation.

Pests: Generally pest-resistant, but watch out for common cactus pests like mealybugs and spider mites. Treat infestations promptly with appropriate insecticides or natural remedies.

Propagation: Can be propagated from offsets (pups) that form around the base of the plant. Carefully separate and plant in well-draining soil.
