Crassula 'Dorothy' grows perfect little roses: square, spiraled rosettes of thick frosted leaves that look carved from jade. This listing is for a full colony pot holding around nine to ten established rosettes, several already sending up the slender yellow bloom stalks this hybrid is known for.

Dorothy has a good story too. It appeared as a chance seedling at a nursery in Vista, California, a short drive from our own property, and became a collector favorite for its tidy geometry and easy clumping habit. Singles sell everywhere; an established colony like this gives you the full mat effect on day one, and every offset you pull becomes a new plant.

  • Light: Bright light to gentle morning sun
  • Water: Low. Soak and dry, sparingly in winter
  • Hardiness: USDA zones 10 to 11, grow indoors elsewhere
  • Growth: Slow, compact, offsets freely into a colony

Please note: This plant ships in its 6 inch nursery pot with soil intact, so the colony arrives established and undisturbed.

Cold Weather Warning

If your area drops below 40°F during the colder months, we highly recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as we don’t automatically include one. This helps keep your plants safe in transit. 🌡️❄️

Cactus Care

Dorothy is an easy windowsill succulent with one preference: bright light and a light hand with the watering can.

  • Light: Bright light with gentle morning sun. Strong light keeps the rosettes tight and can blush the leaf tips red.
  • Water: Soak and dry. Water at the soil, let it dry fully, and keep it nearly dry in winter.
  • Soil: Gritty, fast-draining succulent mix in a shallow pan.
  • Temperature: Hardy in USDA zones 10-11. Bring it indoors before frost anywhere colder.
  • Propagating: Gently twist off an offset, let it dry a day, and set it on gritty mix. It roots in a couple of weeks.
