What to expect in the box
You will receive one rooted, bare-root Cleistocactus tupizensis in your chosen size, shipped without soil or a pot. After arrival: unbox promptly and let the plant rest in a shaded, dry spot for 1-2 days. Pot it up in a gritty, fast-draining cactus mix in a container with a drainage hole. Wait about a week before the first watering so the roots can settle, then begin a normal soak and dry routine. Height and spine density vary naturally, so your plant will have its own character.

Cacti can look slightly dull after a few days in a dark box. Color returns within a week or two of bright light. If your area drops below 40F, we recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as one is not automatically included.

Cleistocactus tupizensis is a striking columnar cactus from the high valleys of Bolivia. Its slender, upright green stems are densely covered in fine silvery to reddish spines that catch the light, and mature plants send up multiple columns for a dramatic clustered look. In summer it can produce tubular deep-red flowers that are a favorite of hummingbirds.

It is an easy, undemanding grower that wants bright light and a dry root run. Give it full sun and water only when the soil has dried out, keeping it nearly dry through winter. It makes an excellent architectural accent in a pot or a warm, frost-free garden.

Cleistocactus tupizensis is a tough, high-altitude columnar cactus that asks for very little beyond sun and sharp drainage.
