What to expect in the box
You will receive the exact Polaskia chichipe pictured, shipped rooted and bare root without soil or a pot. After arrival: let the plant rest in a shaded, dry spot for 2-3 days, then plant in a sandy, fast-draining mix or a well-drained full-sun spot. Wait about a week before the first watering so the roots can settle, then begin a normal soak and dry routine. Some scuffing of spines in transit is normal and does not harm the plant.

Cacti can look slightly dull after a few days in a dark box. Color returns within a week or two of bright light. If your area drops below 40F, we recommend adding a heat pack to your order, as one is not automatically included.

This is the exact plant you will receive. A one of a kind Polaskia chichipe, the Chichipe Cactus, about 10 inches tall overall. A stout 5 inch base stem, roughly 3 inches across, carries a vigorous new head that has already grown another 4 to 5 inches and is crowned with bright red new spines.

The original growing tip of the base stem was removed, and the plant responded by pushing this new head from the top of the cut. That gives it a stacked, two-tier shape you will not find in a standard nursery row, and it will keep branching from here into the candelabra form the species is known for.

Polaskia chichipe comes from the dry valleys of Puebla and Oaxaca in southern Mexico, where it grows into a 13 to 16 foot tree with waxy blue-green stems, small greenish flowers and sweet chichituna fruit. It is tough, fast and easy in full sun.

Chichipe is an easy, forgiving columnar cactus from southern Mexico. Give it sun and drainage and it will branch into a small candelabra.
