Description

The Monkey Tail Cactus (Cleistocactus colademononis) has long, trailing stems covered in fuzzy, hair-like spines. It loves bright light and only needs water when the soil is dry. In the right conditions, it can produce bright red blooms along its stems. This cactus looks amazing in a hanging pot, where its “tails” can hang freely.

 

Please Note: Our collection includes bare-root WITHOUT any soil or pot unless it comes in a 4" pot or smaller. Some of our plants may have minor scars, yet each one is guaranteed to arrive in optimal health and excellent condition. Additionally, any discoloration at the base of the cactus, particularly in rooted variants, is a typical result of previous planting in soil.

After Arrival
When your Monkey Tail Cactus arrives, carefully unpack it and place it in a spot with gentle, indirect light for a day or two. This rest period helps the cactus adjust to its new home. Check the soil; if it’s dry, give it a small drink of water. If it’s still damp, wait until it dries before watering again.

Long-Term Care
Once settled, move your cactus to a bright spot or direct sunlight. Water only when the top soil is dry—about every two to three weeks. Use a well-draining soil mix and add a cactus fertilizer during spring and summer. Keep it in temperatures above 50°F (10°C) for best results.
